Contact lens exams take the comprehensive exam a bit further by focusing on the cornea, the clear covering of the eye on which the contact will rest. Your doctor will determine the proper curve and size lenses you will need as well as check for any unusual characteristics in shape or possible scratches on your eye’s surface. Certain eye conditions such as astigmatism may require specialized contact lenses, called toric lenses, known for providing sharper vision for those with distorted or blurred vision.

After the eye exam for contacts, you will be likely be given samples of different brands to try to find what fits your needs best. Then your doctor can offer a prescription and get you on your way to clear vision.
